JKH – Julia Kaja Hrovat x Mina Fina

Julia Kaja Hrovat, mlada oblikovalka, ki pod svojim imenom ustvarja sveže kolekcije ženskih oblačil z inspiracijo v slovenski kulturni dediščini. Rojena v Torontu, slovenskim staršem je bila vedno razpeta med dvema kulturama, a vselej vzgojena v vseslovenskem duhu. Srednjo šolo je obiskovala v Ljubljani – srednja šola za oblikovanje in fotografijo, kjer leta je leta 2010 z odliko zaključila, kot grafična oblikovalka. Med študijem na FD – Fakulteti za dizajn je leto dni preživela na študijski praksi v Carigradu (2013). Leta 2013 je prejela posebno priznanje za oblikovanje klobukov na natečeju na Dunaju – Horbiger Kultur Salon. Kasneje je nadaljevala s praktičnem vsposabljanjem v Stockholmu, kjer se je učila krojenja pri oblikovalki Minna Palmqvist (2013-14) in v Antwerpnu, kot pripravnica modnega oblikovanja v studiju oblikovalca Christian Wijnansts (2014). Na FD je diplomirala z odliko leta 2014. Študij je nadaljevala na NTF – Naravoslovnotehnična faklteta. Med študijem si je prislužila številne nagrade za svoje oblikovanje; Najboljša zaključna kolekcija LJFW (april 2016), 1. Mesto na natečaju Sweet Fashion v Kopru (september 2016) in MBFW Award (oktober 2016). S slednjo si je prislužila tudi svojo prvo samostojno predstavitev na Mercedez Benz tednu mode, v Ljubljani, kjer se je prvič predstavila aprila 2017. Med magistrskim študjem je na večih projektih aktivno asisteirala oblikovalki in kostumografinji Sanji Grcić. Septembra 2017 se je, kot članica pridružila Modni Koperativi – Zoofa, kjer aktivno prodaja svoje kolekcije vse do danes. Aprila leta 2019 je z odliko magistiriala z delom – Oblačilna identiteta naroda na NTF. V svojem delu, oblikovalka Julia Kaja Hrovat črpa iz slovenske kulturne dediščine. Zanimajo jo najrazličnejši simboli in zgodbe naše identitete, katere uspešno prenaša na sodobne kolekcije ženskih oblačil. Ustvarja za ženske, ki so samostojne, samozavestne, v svojem življenju zaposlene in vsemogočne. Na oblačila, ki so oblikovno zasnovana tako, da žensko skozi dan popeljejo v vrtincu barv in udobja naravnih materjalov, vse do večera v gledališču, prireditvi ali večerji s prijatelji. Na oblačila preneša barvite vzorce, ki jih sestavljajo zgodbe slovenske kulturne dediščine. Leta 2019 je JKH zasnovala blagovno znamko sLOVEtno, katera se počasi razvija v znamko produktov okrašenih z vzorci slovenske kulurne dediščine, ki izvirajo iz Bele Krajine.

Julia Kaja Hrovat, is a young designer who creates fresh and innovative women’s clothing collections that are inspired by the Slovenian cultural heritage under the brand that bears her own name. Born in Toronto, Canada to Slovenian parents she was always torn between two cultures, however her upbringing included and cultivated the rich Slovenian spirit. She attended high school in Ljubljana – the school for design and photography, where she graduated with honors in 2010 as a graphic designer. While studying at the Faculty of Design, she spent a year studying in Istanbul (2013). In 2013, she received special recognition for milinary design at the Vienna Competition – Horbiger Kultur Salon. Later, she continued her practical training during an internship in Stockholm, where she honed her pattern making and tailoring at Minna Palmqvist (2013-14) then in Antwerp, as a fashion design intern at Christian Wijnansts (2014). She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Arts in 2014. She continued her studies at NTF – The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering. During her studies, she earned many awards for her design; Best Final Collection at LJFW (Ljubljana Fashion Week) (April 2016), 1st place at the Sweet Fashion Competition in Koper, Slovenia (September 2016) and the MBFW (Mercedez Benz Fashion Week) Fashion Award (October 2016). She also earned her first solo presentation of her collection at the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in Ljubljana, her first instroduction of her brand in April 2017. During her master’s degree, she actively assisted designer and costume designer Sanji Grcić on several projects. In September 2017, as a new member she joined the Fashion Cooperative – Zoofa, where she actively sells her collections to this day. In April 2019, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree with honors for her work titled- The identity of clothing of the Nation at NTF. In her work, designer Julia Kaja Hrovat draws her inspiration from the rich Slovenian cultural heritage. She is interested in the symbols, stories and myths of Slovenian identity, which she successfully transfers to contemporary collections of women’s clothing. She creates for women who are independent, confident, active and almighty in their lives. The clothes are designed to take a woman through the day in a whirlwind of color and comfort using natural materials, that can take her straight to an evening at a theater, a social event or dinner with friends. The clothes and fabrics impart colorful patterns composed of stories of the Slovenian cultural heritage. In 2019, JKH designed the SLOVEtno brand, which is slowly evolving into a brand of products with detailing using patterns found in the cultural heritage originating in Bela Krajina, Slovenia.
